sleeps with butterflies

ACK! ACK! ACK!

a sweet little birdy (named trent) helped me hear (sent me) the latest tori song before its release (leaked, thanks to Kylie fans!). It's utterly AMAZING. I can't wait for the entire CD and, of course, the NYC show that we MUST get tickets for!

WEE!

filled with christ's love, eh?

errr.... i thought mandy moore always boasted not wanting to use sexuality to her advantage or anything? hmmm.

wowza!

anna paquin didn't make me pee

so it's been a whirlwind few days. since i last posted i've seen most of Mark's entire family on both sides (sans the immediate members) and my entire family (including all in-laws), all 34 of them. visiting family is tiring. especially when you're trying to make a good impression. again. but it was a nice holiday visit with everyone, i'll say that. good food, nice conversations, even some gifts.

tonight was the first night there were no actual plans. for me, at least. Mark planned on having "the boys" over tonight for a bit of a sausage fest and everyone else seemed to be low-key. there was talk of hanging with angi & tony, but that didn't pan out. instead, trent ended up coming by and we decided to order pizza and hang back to watch junk tv and then go to a midnight movie. after all, we ARE on vacation! so while we waited for tonight's episode of Real World/Road Rules Battle of the Sexes to come on, we played a friendly game of Trivial Pursuit: The 90's Edition. :) Let's recall that Trent has always claimed (and usually, with good reason) to be THE champ at the TP games. But let's point out that tonight ... he was defeated. With 3 wedges and the center question still to go! ahhh, feels good to finally win a TP game. and without the help of a team, too! i must admit, i'm usually awful at that game. but this edition? i rock!

we went on to watch RR/RW and then head out to see Darkness, quite possibly the WORST movie ever made, EVER. we were hoping for a little "i'm-so-scared-i-wet-myself-like-anna-paquin" action. no luck. Anna Paquin sucked balls in this movie! as well as all the other actors, the script, the cinematography, the direction, the production.... well, you get the drift. SO bad. the only justification i have for having chosen to see it, was it was the luck of the die. we rolled one of the TP dice to pick between that and Closer. well, that and our laziness from getting our arses off the couch in time to see Closer.

sigh. damn that die. but you'll see. one day, soon, when it's on your cable station and you have nothing else going on, you'll watch it. and you'll remember this post and think "she was right!"

'twas the night before the night before xmas

party was a success, if i do say so myself. the only bad thing about hosting one of these is that you don't get to mingle as much as you'd like. there's always a drink to be made or something that has spilled (well, in this case, a storm window that has broken!) or something needing to be done. I have to say, though, that this party i was able to hang back and chat a little more, which was nice. lots of food, lots of good people, and a very fun gift exchange which showcased the true alchy's ... the cosmo mix and margarita mix were the hot items to be stolen! Although, not to be ignored: the awesome mixed cd, book & incense from Ben as well as the adorable purse, lip balm combo from Melanie ... and of course many more cool ass things.

The same old Christmastime crew hung around (indeed, crashed!) until the wee hours of the morning: me, mark, jeff, adriana, trent and ben and sam, who did go home but not until 4am. The next morning we all piled in my bed and then out on the futon to watch any and all kinds of tv.

Sigh... one party down, more to come this vacation. :) actually, i should be getting ready for the main event (christmas with the family) right now! eep.

psst - if you'd like to see pictures from the shindig, check out trent's blog post here.

December 23, 2004

argh!

don't you hate it when you have a ton of running around to do and you go to 1001 places and get 4001 things and you get home and unpack everything, put it all away, and realize that you forgot to get one thing? one crucial, must-have-for-THAT-night thing?

yeah, that just happened to me.

and the headache....staarrrrrts...... NOW!

(ps - by no means does the arctic amount of snow we got today mean that the party tonight is off or that you are off the hook. the roads are getting better by the hour. by 7 or 8 tonight, they should be perfect. forge thru the snow!)

a poem

I received an email from the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) asking for a donation and in return, a holiday e-card will be sent to GWB. The card's poem reads as follows:

Dear Mr. President,

A holiday greeting from some voters who care,
About things like land and water and air.

We don't mean to spoil the good holiday cheer,
But your election has prompted some Christmastime fear.

In your first term, you had a bad hobby,
You'd bow and you'd scrape to the energy lobby.
You'd follow the plans of Vice President Dick,
And the fumes that resulted made our children sick.

The Senate, so wise, called your plan full-of-gas,
But now you're determined to make it all pass.
Like a big Christmas dinner,
you'll keep adding more pork,
Till every last Member has some on their fork.

Your bill is not wise (indeed, couldn't be dumber),
It endangers our nation, to fill up the Hummer.

Yes, you won (by 2 mighty per-cent),
But do not misread the message we sent.
None of us voted for dirtier air,
Or payouts to Oil, so grossly unfair.

So please check your list, and consider one thought,
That might clear the air, and help us a lot:

A holiday gift that you give to the nation…
An energy plan, with REAL conservation.

Sincerely, [Names of LCV supporters]

bite me.

It's so disgusting. I just read that GWB's inauguration bullshit will be a $40 million event! completely insane. repulsive. no matter who is being inaugurated, $40 million is absurd. the fact that it's GWB again, well ... that just makes my gut churn all the more.

However, there are many anti-war, anti-GWB rallies in the works for January 20th. Supposedly a mass of people will have their backs turned to the parade procession. (ooh, big whoop.) But another source made mention to some civil disobedience ... hmm, now that's more like it! har.

Check the whole story out here.

cinderelly, cinderelly

tonight was cleaning night and boy did it suck. i guess it helps if you don't put it off all the time, only to make the time you actually take to clean seem to never end.

Hi, my name is Sarah and I'm ... uh, ... I'm a procrastinator. [small applause]

yes, it's true. i'm sure it comes to no surprise to most of you reading this: i put things off until the last minute. this time 'round it was a thorough cleaning of my house. oh, sure, i'll keep it tidy enough. i'll wash my dishes and clean my sinks and toilet. but scrub floors? move every last knick-knack to dust? actually CLEAN OFF the top of my computer desk? nuh-uh - that takes an act of god (or a lot of people coming over in two days) to get me to go to those lengths.

how i ever cleaned other people's houses for side money is beyond me. ew.

alone on a Tuesday

appropriate title, since everyone here (work) is gone and i'm, basically, alone here. yay-uh, getting ready to skate on out, too. preach.

but really, i've just had that April March song in my head all day:

"Hang up the chick habit
Hang it up daddy
You're alone on a Tuesday..."

fa la la la laa

back. aches.
mind. is. blank.
fingers. are. sticky.
bits. of. paper. EVERYwhere.

i cannot believe that i've been wrapping gifts since 9pm (it is now 1am) and i'm STILL not done. you mutha-suckas getting these gifts better be damn thankful...

...or just return the favor of exquistite gifts wrapped in a lovely manner. [grin]

either way, the yuletide spirit has kept me busy lately and I haven't been able to post in detail. will have to remedy that soon. after the cleaning of the house, the last-minute shopping, the cooking and the partying, the decking of the halls...

Politically Correct Holiday Greetings

To go along with the holiday "term" ... heh heh ...

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, our best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender- neutral, celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all . . .and a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2005, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great, (not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country or is the only “AMERICA” in the western hemisphere), and without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, choice of computer platform, or sexual preference of the wishee.

(By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.)

chrismahanukwanztice

In an effort to respect everyone this season, I've devised my own word to wish those I encounter well this season.

"Merry Chrismahanukwanztice!"

Maybe this will thwart the bitching?

holiday spirits

Yesterday was a nice, short work day. Came in late (9:30am), left at 12:30pm and headed over to Ciao Ristorante for our annual Holiday lunch with my coworkers. Every year our boss takes us to lunch and gives us the afternoon off. Of course, the afternoon turns to evening and we're still with each other ... drinking.

It's pretty nice, he treats us AND gives us each (15 of us!) a $35 gift card to usually a restaurant or movie theater. This year, it was Max & Erma's. At Ciao, we once again ate like kings and queens. We drank complimentary champagne, nibbled on bread dipped in balsamic vinaigrette & olive oil, ordered our main courses and then dessert - I had cinnamon ice cream with hot fudge. In addition to the champagne, let's not forget about the 3 cosmopolitan's and the Jack & Coke I slurped down. I feel fortunate that I really get along well with the folks I work with and genuinely care about them - even if they get on my nerves on a daily basis. :) The holiday tradition of getting drunk together certainly helps my perception of them, too. har har.

The rest of the night was a bit hazy.... went home and crashed, watched the 3-hour Apprentice and went to sleep.

it makes me sad...

...to think that Steve Perry may never return to Journey again. For some reason I always thought he had some throat problem, but I guess I was just thinking of the Spin Doctors' guy. Steve, apparently, had a hip problem that prevented him from touring and so the rest of the guys chose to move on without him (bastards!). I'm sorry but, there is NO replacing Steve Perry.

I know none of this is new news. And I know it's a little out of the blue. I listened to some Journey tonight. Big Journey fan. Even air guitared along.

"Thank God for Santana breaking up, so Journey could form" - Mark
"Thank God for Steve Perry's hair which is what first drew me to Journey" - Me, in my head.

Journey ... and also The Cars - two highly underrated bands that I reserve for those moments in need of some serious rockin' out and a general feel-good atmosphere.

'The party's over....''I guess you're just what I needed...'

money does, indeed, buy happiness

Today has been a very boring, mundane day here at work. BUT it all changed when two things happened:

1) Trent and I were IM'ing all day and he mentioned that he redeemed some Charter One (our bank) points and got a $200 credit card/gift card! After discussing the logistics with him, I realized that the phone I really want to buy and the money I really want to spend hanging out with people over the holiday break could be a reality with that little winner of a card! So I redeemed my points and now I will be the lucky recipient of $200 in free cash (in 3-15 days); and

2) Mark called me to tell me that our MEAP checks arrived! $75 dollars for working about 4 or 5 hours for the State proctoring MEAP exams pays off! Especially when you need to pay for new license tabs. Yipes.

So now even though I'm still in this hell-hole that is work, I'm a little bit happier. And it's all due to MONEY. Evil, luscious, scrumptious, rotten MONEY.

"he's suggestive, in a pushy way..."

All I can say is, I don't know where kids come up with some of the things they say. Tonight my night was fun-filled, for sure. First I went out to dinner at Red Robin with Sherri & Kyle. It was great to see them, hang out and really just chat for a while. Kyle is as crazy as usual (in a good way) and says the silliest things. The title of this post is an example. Mind you, he's describing his 1st grade "buddy" at school after I asked him what he's like. He followed that up by saying, "And I don't even know what that means!" We laughed, he kept saying it. I guess it's in some song? I dunno. But I got some good ideas for christmas gifts from him and Sherri was able to give me the yes and no nods secretly, yet not so subtly, from behind the menu.

After eating, doing some Targeting and then chatting back at Sherri's house for hours, I picked up Candice and we headed up to the Dirty where she filled me in on the latest dirt with her. We reminisced about "old times" and told funny Grandparent stories. She's been warned, I WILL be stealing her Grandma's catch phrase and using it as my own. In place of familiar phrases like "it's the cats meow" or "it's the bees knees" I'll be substituting "it's the berries," when the need arises. I can't wait. No free drinks tonight, but heavy discount since the bartender is the brother of Candy's old best friend. Gawd. Drama. Love that girl. :) Now I reek of smoke and have to decide if I'm going to shower now or stick it out till morning. Decisions....

all you gotta do is shake it

That was the quote of the day today at Marycrest Manor, the nursing home we visit frequently throughout the year. By "we," I mean some of us at work who are part of the diversity council and others who aren't but who like to come anyways. Today was our Christmas visit and, as always, it was so very worthwhile. We bring some things that the residents need (new, white socks) and also give a little gift bag with an ornament inside and a card from "the Ford Family." But first we gather with them in the dining hall and sing carols, visit, dance (if the mood strikes), and listen to one of our employees play jazz saxophone and another play bagpipes. It's really a great time at Marycrest. Just seeing the smiles on their faces - and for those less alert, hoping that maybe our visit is lifting their spirit a little, is a good feeling.

Some people's spouses or children were there to visit and got to join in the merriment. One of my coworkers is really the heart & soul of every visit. He's very bubbly and outgoing and always leads us in signing or just gets us going. This year he had a plethora of Santa hats, Elf hats, Mrs. Claus (complete with white braids) hats, Reindeer hats and jingle bells. He passed them out to us and some to the residents - we all got to keep them. :) When he gave the bells to one woman, Katherine, she said "What do i do with this?" and he replied, "All you gotta do is shake it." We all laughed and continued to mock him, using all sorts of variations, of course: "Shake it, Baby" or "Shake what yo momma gave ya" or "shake it like a polaroid, son" ... I think the residents just liked to see us laugh and laugh with us.

We danced with Leo who sang along, singing "LA LA LA LA LA" (in the highest octave you can think of) to every song. Helen kept grabbing at her husband, who was visiting, and hugging him. Joyce tried her hardest to remember all the words, but sometimes we had to help her. ;) And (I shouldn't say this, but...) my favorite: Evelyn. She's 99 and will be 100 on May 8th of 2005. She has MANY stories and each one of them captivate me. Doesn't matter that some of them are far from true (so the director whispers), the fact that she can tell these stories so vividly, amazes me. She's also babysat for all of us at one point or another and loves to tell us how we've grown up into such nice children. She's a riot.

After a day like that, who wants to go back to the dungeon and the least Christmasy place on earth!? Not me. So I didn't. I went home.

Walking in a ghetto wonderland

Driving thru Garden Shitty City tonight, coming from Wasteland Westland Mall and I passed a couple "Homer Simpson as Santa" blowups on the lawn.

People, please. Don't do that. :(

Forget Paris...

I'm mortified. Rumor has it that my darling Adam, lead singer of Maroon 5, has been shacking up with skank Paris Hilton. I heard this morning on the WDRQ morning show (Rachel's Dirt) and also found it on Defamer. I guess I can't blame him ... she's a rich socialite heiress. But c'mon... you can't sing Sunday Morning the next day to a passed out Barbie and her Tinkerbell pooch while shacked up in some hotel room. It's just not the romance that the song portrays.

Whatever - he's still way sexy.

Miracle on Calhoun St.

So, this weekend didn't involve a lot of activity outside of the house, even though that was the plan. Saturday night we were going to go out and hang with some friends at, where else?, the Double Olive. It was one of our friend's birthday's - but after a day of shopping and Mark's cold getting worse, we decided it best to stay in.

Today we got up early but fell in and out of consciousness in the late morning. We were supposed to go to the Wild Lights at the Detroit Zoo with A & T, but Mark didn't feel up to the adventure. Had to postpone. Ended up ordering a pizza and while Mark slept and watched football, I cleaned the house. The front half, at least. Still have to do the "deep dive" in the back of the house. Then, we did the ultimate task for two lazy couch-potatoes to undertake, especially on a Sunday: we put the Christmas tree up! AND decorated it! And, I must say, it looks marvelous. Just as we finished the last decoration and scared the kitties away from it for the umpteenth time, Miracle on 34th Street came on TBS. Indeed.

Marcus feels like poo and i've got the lazy bug again. so far, spending the day doing a whole lot of nothing. Reading, watching random tv, playing with kitties ... not a whole lot more to come. Supposed to be going to the Wild Lights at the Zoo with Angi & Tony. Not sure if that's gonna happen; all depends on Marcus' cold. We'll have to see...

i love sarah.

No, not myself. (Well, I love myself, but...). I recently saw the new Sarah McLachlan video for World On Fire and it's absolutely magnificent. Not only is she beautiful on the outside, but she positively radiates inner beauty. I've always thought this about her through her lyrics and music, but after seeing this video and what she did for so many through this medium (and in the process, taught us how disgustingly expensive it is to shoot a simple vidoe), it's inspiring.

If you haven't yet seen her video, please please please go HERE and check it out.

I wish more people would think - and act - like this.

erik WILL slap you

Last night was pretty chilled. After a loooong day of work I went home and chilled a bit and then went over to Trent & Erik's where, soon after, the three of us went out shopping. We ventured out to Birmingham and when we got to one store in particular (won't mention any stores due to the people i was shopping for reading this blog), the cashier was a total bitch! erik had a discount card for this place and he let me use it for what I was buying and the girl proceeded to give him a hard time. Asking him where he worked and what he did there. He finally told her the truth, that he got the card through a "relative" and he didn't work there at all. Her attitude totally sucked and we bitched all the way to the W.A.B. about her and other rude and disrespectful people that Erik has encountered. Don't give him that attitude, folks. He just might slap you. :)

So we ate, drank and waited a bazillion years for our jukebox picks at the WAB, but had a nice time getting a little saucy. Some of our belly's were a little icky, so we decided to make it an early night after that.

Just getting ready now to go out to 12 Oaks and do some hefty shopping. I should probably take an Aleve now, to fend off any inevitable headaches. :(

i want a parlor in my house

Thursday evening turned out to be a lovely, enchanting and joyful night. I had been hearing about how wonderful the Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village were, but I had yet to experience it myself. Let me tell you, if you have time before Dec. 22nd, go and visit! It's romantic, it's magical, it's educational, it makes you appreciate what people have done through time to get us where we are today. And it takes you out of the hustle & bustle of today and stirs up a respect and admiration for a time much simpler than ours.

Of course there were the homes of Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, The Wright Brothers ... but we also got to step into Noah Webster's home and others who weren't necessarily historically famous. We stepped into 1764 and 1845 and others and all was dimly lit by lantern or candlelight. Some homes had someone in the kitchen, baking real food, while others were relaxing in the parlors. The streets were filled with well-wishers and horse-drawn wagons. There was even an ice rink (for free!) and Model T rides (free again!). Along the way we stopped in a couple shops and got some cookies, chocolate covered nuts/raisins and coffee. And we were able to pet a couple live reindeer just outside of where Santa would come out to Ho! Ho! Ho! every now and then.

Some of the highlights for Mark & I were easily the quaint English (stone) cottage that, once inside, welcomed us with a roaring fire and an Irish quartet playing upbeat Irish traditionals. We crammed inside for a while and took in the glory of the music and overall feeling. There were also random bonfires along the paths where some people dressed in civil war garb stood, playing fifes and drums. The biggest highlight of the night, though, was being able to be there with some of Mark's family. His aunts, uncle and cousin (and his new girl!) met us up there and instantly settled my nerves and fears about seeing them again for the first time since everything ... But they couldn't have been kinder and more welcoming. I was thrilled by their good natures.

Kisses, hugs, small chats with one another and fireworks to complete the event - it was a wonderful night.

VERY exciting news: some clips of new Tori songs that will be on her new album, The Beekeeper, have leaked out. Thanks to Trent, I have the links if you want to hear the clips:

Tori Amos

romeo + juliet

I don't know if it was youth or college-life or just old times gone by. But one of the things I really really miss is driving around on long, scenic routes singing at the top of my lungs with someone.

Nowadays it's different. Now, I still have long drives, but it's through rush-hour traffic and i'm dying to be anywhere but the car. I still sing at the top of my lungs, but it just bounces off the walls and windows and I'm the only one appreciating the fun of it. There's no one there with me, giggling at my silliness or me at theirs (unless the person in the traffic jam next to me finds me amusing).

Before, it was late-night drives with the windows all the way down (even if it was cold) and there was someone sitting in the seat next to me - sometimes even in the back seat - and we'd crank up the volume and just sing wildy, crying over what we thought were our greatest loves. We'd take all the long ways and the backroads. Hines Park, Ford Road (past the suburbs), Gotfredson Rd., Prospect Rd. and all the little side roads in between ... We'd pull over and sit on the gravel and stare at the stars, not worrying about who might be peeking out of the house just down the road. We'd remember that we had to get up early the next morning, but we'd still stop off for a slurpee on the way home and sing just a little bit more.

I miss the wind whipping through my hair, carefree and passionate, just like we were while we sang.

i'm in the mood for mischief

Tonight was a fun night with my boy. After work we headed out to Ann Arbor to go and see Kris Delmhorst at the Ark. We hadn't bought tickets yet, so we needed to get there pretty early since the lines for the Ark can get pretty lengthy at times. First there was an accident on I-96 backing up traffic from Telegraph all the way until about Newburgh! Took a loong time. Then there was a B.B. King concert AND a schoolboard meeting going on downtown Ann Arbor so we literally drove in circles looking for parking. EVERY lot was full! By this time, we were famished - having planned on getting out there & grabbing some food before getting in line - and it was going on 7:30pm.

We decided to skip the concert and go have a nice, warm meal at Seva instead. And we did! Mark was in rare form; all wiggly and bouncy and full of funny Mark-isms. :) "I'm in the mood for mischief" with a shit-eating grin on his face and "damn, feels like i'm getting a hummer" were my two favorites. We must've been sitting above the P.A. or speakers for the comic downstairs in the comedy club, because at one point he was making some sound effect and the floor was vibrating through the wood bench we were sitting on, into our crotches. Mark liked it. Hence, the hummer comment. hah.

After dinner, I was able to use up my birthday gift certificate (from 2003!) from Crazy Wisdom and bought myself a few things. It was a chilly evening and we had left our coats in the car, so walking around Ann Arbor was vetoed and instead we headed home and watched Lost and The Barbara Walters Special that I had taped.

What? She ranked KARL ROVE the most fascinating person of 2004!? Babba Wawwa has something wrong in her head.

Talan is the new Steven.

Spent the night at Trent & Erik's gearing up for the big, uninterrupted Laguna Beach finale. Lounging on the couch, eating pizza, cheese bread & cheezits, we watched the marathon of old LB episodes and endured a new episode of The Real World: Philly where we were "amped" to find out that in an upcoming episode, one of the chicks (Melanie) somehow contracts scabies! ew! They even showed a clip of her with horrendous rash-like marks all over her. ew! ew! ew! How does one get scabies, exactly? Angi?

So the episode came on and we watched as Steven & Kristin said their goodbyes; it was actually pretty cute. Then the others, and their parents, had their cries, goodbyes and moved on. Sigh. LB is "dunzo." Or so we thought! After the show, MTV actually had Kristin on - live - and announced that they will be airing a LAGUNA BEACH 2! We gasped and yay'd. They'll be following the same old gang plus some new seniors. AY, you're in luck. Trent & I vowed to tape the episodes from now on - and you know they'll be showing another LB1 marathon in preparation for LB2. Stoked.

We then continued our incessant sophmoric behavior (sans Erik) in the computer room downloading pics and listening to the cd I made: "You Just Heard ... Songs From the Real O.C." hahahaha.

Lame you say? Oh, no no... Gnarly.

Now I'm off to complete my ridiculous night with a little Maroon 5-on-Leno nightcap.

"somewhere, somehow, somebody must've kicked you around some..."

My lunch hour can be summed up in a few choice words:

Rain.
Tom.
Jackson.

Got in my car and was graced with the sound of "Refugee" by Tom Petty. Love that song, love Tom Petty. After running around in the pouring rain (too bad it wasn't the Weather Girls type of rain), I got back in my car to hear another jewel: Jackson Browne's "Pretender." Love that song, and Jackson Browne has great hair. Who woulda thought 93.9 "easy listening" would have been a blessing in disguise?

"Caught between the longing for love
And the struggle for the legal tender
Where the sirens sing and the church bells ring
And the junk man pounds his fender
Where the veterans dream of the fight
Fast asleep at the traffic light
And the children solemnly wait
For the ice cream vendor
Out into the cool of the evening
Strolls the Pretender
He knows that all his hopes and dreams
Begin and end there"

"all i want is what i ha-have coming to me, all i want is my fair share"

I am drained. I just spent a good chunk of my evening out in the cold wet night decorating the front yard. I must say, it looks fabulous. :) I almost took a picture of it to post here but I figured you will just have to see it when you come to the party on the 23rd.

Now i just have to get the tree up and decorated while watching "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and "Rudolph." I strongly suggest dropping whatever it is you're doing anytime the Charlie Brown theme song is played (especially whenever the characters themselves do it) and dance. Pick a character and mimic his/her dancing. It's the most fun.

"Christmastime is here, happiness and cheer
Fun for all that children call their favorite time of year..."
'Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown!'

i like boys who wear skirts...

It's true. Some guys can really pull the skirt thing off in a major way.

When I was younger, college days, I loved all the hippie boys who would put broom skirts on and dance around with no shirt on at all the hippie fests. SO hot.

Then I got into the goth/industrial thing for a while and boys who wore long black skirts (again, with no shirts - but sometimes with black electrical tape on their nipples) got me hot.

Now, although those hippie boys and goth guys still can do it for me, I go for the little guys who wear short cheeleader skirts and kiss other guys. uh... ??? I can't help it. Adam Levine is fawyne, girl. [insert lip smack here] In or out of a skirt (preferrably out.. heh heh).

"That's hot."

i've been very good...

i could have flown off the handle a few times today, when:

1) FIRST thing in the morning (granted my first thing is much later than my co-workers), before i even have my coat off, i hear my name being said and someone checking my schedule. "No, she's supposed to be in today," she said. There was a meeting about to convene and they were looking for me. FINE. So I go to the meeting, without even a minute to settle in;

2) The same woman who was looking into my schedule is blabbing next to me, in my ear, at said meeting. You know the kind - the interrupters and the talker-overers (huh?). The kind that asks a question and then runs her mouth when you're trying to answer her. Yeah. So there was THAT;

3) All day, every phone call from a supplier that I received was filled with idiotic questions. Asking things they should have already known the answers to. And that they didn't, scares me that they supply for us;

4) Stopping at Target during lunch and maneuvering through the screaming children and people not watching where they were going (and the old man who smelled like pee standing next to me);

5) Stuff I was trying to do was not working (systematically, work-related);

6) Cramps;

7) Feeling like I'm getting my period (see #6), but shouldn't be here for another week (uh, not to mention I'm not wearing underwear today. don't like to. plus my pants are form-fitting. don't judge me! could be disaster?);

8) Baby, it's cold outside.

I've kept my composure all day (though I almost lost it on the morning blabbermouth) and have made it to the end of a dreadful Monday. Hurrah!

Going home with hopes of cleaning the inside and decorating the outside.

[Reality shakes her pretty little head at me and laughs.]

Mutha-load at Marshall's

Saturday, after a loooong day of lazing (mostly napping), Angi came and picked me up and we set off to tackle the christmas crowds at the malls. We both were so fricking starving, and still had to stop back at her house to pick up her shopping list, that we decided we needed to eat at Mongolian BBQ (plus I had that free stir fry). Stores would close before the restaurant, so we had to do the shopping first, much to our dismay. We stopped in at Marshall's and didn't leave there until we were both about $150 poorer. !!!

Let me tell you, of all the times I've been to Marshall's I have never found so much I wanted to buy. I think it's because when I've gone, I've always been shopping for clothes and never gift type stuff. I managed to clear a few people off my list as well as score some goodies for the gift exchange at my party. I think it's also due to the fact that we went to the Marshall's in Novi and I've only ever been to the one in Dearborn. Dearborn store = ghetto trash. Now that Angi has proven the worthiness of Marshall's, it's up to Kirsten to do the same with TJ Maxx. It's not that I don't believe them; in fact, almost everybody sings the praises of these stores. I just have never had good experiences when I've gone on my own. And I think I'm a pretty good shopper!

After shopping we ate at Mongolian (two trips up!) and headed back home. She had a 7am class on Sunday so it had to be an early night for her. Lucky for me, Mark decided to cancel plans he had and was waiting for me at home. :) We nuggled and fell asleep to a tape of "The Breakfast Club."

Today has been a domestic Sunday. Grocery shopping, laundry, dishes ... all the things I've been putting off and needed to get done. Luckily Marcus is here with me and we're gonna settle in soon for a night of VH1; "Big in '04" is on at 9pm - perfect to fold clothes to!

still a little bit of your song in my ear

[did i say i was going to something productive? hmm. i lied.]

I just want to say: Damien Rice is beauty.

(hi. clarinet in "Cheers Darlin'?" genius.)

Current Music: "Cannonball" - Damien Rice

saturday looks good to me

well, actually it's pretty overcast and gloomy looking out. but really i'm just shocked that i'm up at all right now. it's not even 10am yet. i stayed up until about 3 or a little after, so i figured i'd be cozy in bed until at least after 11:30am. But, with much thanks to Luna & Stella who were scratching at a plastic bag on the floor and knocking things off my dresser, I'm up.

i actually just re-downloaded Yahoo! Messenger and they've really done a lot to upgrade it. For those of you who don't have it, you should get it. They have cute, customizable avatars, plus, if you've got people set up in your contacts with enough info., you can send, not only IM's, but text messages right to their cell, emails and even call if you have the right tools (i don't). Chatted with VLB on there for a bit this morning, too. ANYways....

so last night was an at-home night. Mark did his own thing and I didn't do much of anything except customize this thing and look up stuff online about 'Lost.' I'm addicted to that show, as well as many others. But that one is really a good one.

today should be a little more exciting, however, since I have plans to hang with Ang after she gets out of her class. Some shopping, dinner, etc. is on the menu. I'm hoping she'll wanna do Mongolian BBQ since I just got ANOTHER free stir-fry from signing up my gmail account to their mailing list. snort. It's not even scamming though, because the griller guy TOLD Angi the other day that they want to see how many times someone signs up with different emails. Like a contest they're running. Strange that it's being allowed, but cool for cheap-asses like me!

ack! enough computer shit ... must. do. something. productive. with. afternoon.

Coming over?

I wanted to have his love-child

Not trying to steal any gossip limelight from Trent's blog, which is "firmly on the pulse," but I had to report this piece of news:

Ben Harper had another baby with Laura "Jurassic Park" Dern. Sniff.
I was supposed to be having his babies. How dare he.

You can check out the story HERE.

htm**

That is my license plate number (with the "**" being actual numbers - but I'm not putting those up there, you stalkers!) and I always remember it because of "HTML."

Now I know I'm a nerd. Not only because of the license plate thing but that I loved HTML coding when I was in college and I'm super diggin' it now while fooling with this blog. I'm sure half of anyone who is reading this is thinking "uh... your blog is boring," but I don't care because it's fun for me.

Crap. I fear that if I was ever a teeny bit cool, I am no longer.

Current Mood: computer-y

the dirty

some might not dig it, but i feel at home there.

not to mention 4 rounds of drinks and a slut shot, all for only $5.

That's right! New Edition's back together! Um, but... sans Bobby Brown mais avec Johnny Gill. This may be old news, but I just found out.

Sigh. Chanda and I used to dance our little asses off to NE.

sex is groovy, AIDS is not

Although this should be something we are aware of and educated about EVERY day, today is World AIDS Day. Make sure you're doing the right thing with the right people and always stay informed. Inform others as well, when you can.

For the faint of heart, don't click the link below. If you're in a work/family environment at the moment, don't click the link below. If you think the human anatomy is "icky," don't click the link below. But if you want to see what I think is a nifty way to get the point across, click the link below.

MILK

About MILK: in this work the artist Shu Lea Cheang brings the number of deaths from AIDS in Africa in connection with the wide availability of pornographic images on the Internet. It shows sex pictures that are accessible to everyone on the Internet. The work does not create these pictures but puts them in the context of the artistic statement through programming on the surface of its own website. This is a media-critical and typical procedure used by web artists: the showing and sampling of pictures available in the collective archives of the Internet.

i'd like to thank the academy

So, today i am the recipient of a "Keep The Light On" award at work. Pretty much means, I keep the topic of Diversity at Ford in the forefront and am a good example of what it means to be diverse and accepting of others. Normally I don't really give a rat's ass about these little acknowledgements given here at work; I'd rather have a pay increase. But today, I feel a little proud. Not only were many nominated from my department and only I won, but the other winners from the other departments were all managers and supervisors and general higher-ups. Hell, I don't even work for Ford directly!

The award itself is like an Emmy or something - it's clear glass (well, it's sturdy plastic, but looks like glass, so...) and stands about 10" tall in the shape of a flame (Keep The Light On, get it?). My name is etched in it next to a light bulb along with the Ford logo, the name of the award, my dept. and the year.

And here's the part that I think is cool, which is odd since I normally am not into the whole "corporate ladder" thing. I accepted the award from the head of my department (big man on campus) as well as the Vice-President of Ford (almost biggest man on campus)! He's one of 8 or 9 people who report directly to Bill Ford Jr. and he was there to congratulate us (me). :)

So, I'm feeling a little proud of myself today.

dude, like, the real O.C. rulez

Stee-VUHNN!

stockings were hung by the chimney with care...

so, i did the decorating. i always feel like it's a little top heavy when i do it. meaning, i have a TON of decorations for the living room (where i spend most of my time) and not so much in the rest of the house. the bathroom needs more. the kitchen needs more. the living room = overload.

unfortunately, i don't have gads of cash to go and spend on other decorations, so i use the same ones over and over. even if i buy more, i end up putting it in the living room somewhere and it just starts to look gaudy. i tried to trim it back a bit this year. hmm.

still not sure about putting a tree up. it'll have to go in the dining area, where the half-assed photo screen is. anything is better than that screen. but i can just see me coming in from work to find the tree down, bulbs strewn about the place after being used as cat toys and little pieces of wire everywhere, from the chewed up xmas lights. this is not something i think i'd handle well. maybe no tree, then?

ah, holidays.

old navy

just what exactly is performance fleece? how does it differ from regular fleece?

just something i've always wondered.

still gets me

The second to last episode of 'Friends' was on UPN tonight and I, of course, caught it. Even though I don't think the writing was at it's best at that point, I still miss that show. I guess it reminds me of my "younger days" and all the things I did and went through for the duration of that show. It made me feel nostalgic. Hasn't even been off the air for a full year yet. Damn.

we'll see...

Just trying it out. We'll see how I keep up with it. This blog could never compare to the stylistic flair of some or the brilliant writing skill of others that I read, but it'll have to do. it'll just be ME.

Right now it's time to get my decoratin' on ... my favorite part of the wintery cold season.
